Yes, DOT (Ministry of Transportation) can be quite strict when it comes to enforcing weight limits if you are caught. Main reason (besides possible insurance denial if involved in an MVA) that I am looking to upgrade to a 2500 or even 3500 so that I can purchase a bigger trailer that my current Ram 1500 is borderline (payload) to legally pull.
