Don, this isn't a shot at you and certainly not a shot at Ram and the new Ecodiesel. This phrase gets thrown around a lot and I just don't feel that it is appropriate to the argument.
Obviously a $600 Kobe beef burger served by 12 scantily clad virgin college cheerleading co-eds is probably going to be better than a 99 cent McDonalds cheeseburger. The problem is that I can't afford that $600 burger and the 12 coeds... I can only afford the McDonalds burger (or the Wendys, Burger King, etc).
When you figure that Ram, GM and Ford all offer half ton, 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks that are all within a pretty close price range. Without getting quotes from dealers, I would venture that similarly equipped trucks by each manufacturer are probably within 10% of each other in price.
Now we aren't comparing that $600 Kobe burger to a $1 McDonalds burger... we are comparing McDonalds to Wendys to Burger King. All things the same, sales show that consumers agree that McDonalds provides the better burger.
The fact that Ford outsells GM and Ram for a comparably priced, comparably equipped truck means that sales show that consumers tend to agree that Ford is a better truck for the money.
At the end of the day, Ford GM and Ram all make very good trucks that will meet most buyers needs. If you need a 3/4 ton gasser or a 1 ton diesel, you can't really go wrong with any of the big three's offerings.
The only market right now that has innovative competition is the half ton market. Ford hit first with the Ecoboost. Its not for everyone, but its definitely a unique vehicle that doesn't have comparision from GM, Ram, Toyota or Nissan. I think Ram has a great product in this upcoming Ecodiesel. It has the potential for class leading gas mileage. This truck won't be for everyone, but it will challenge the Ecoboost for buyers and is a unique offering from Ram.
These types of innovations are great for us consumers. The senseless brand bashing and negative opinions from people that don't have and have never even driven these vehicles are pointless.
The bottom line is that the consumer will eventually determine what the truck market is. The consumer will decide if the Ecodiesel is a stud or a bust. I like the idea of the truck, I wish it was a little different though (mainly better payload rating).
Again, not an attack on you or the Ecodiesel. - Perrysburg_DodgExplorerITGUY, care to post a link showing the tests used the SAE standard.
The auto companies rate their trucks not a rag. Google the SAE tow standards and let me know who, they say is going to be hurt and by how much. The big loser is Ford and the reason they refused to adapt the new standard.
Troy not sure what you were linking but try it again.
Don - Perrysburg_DodgExplorerThe GM and Ford venture for a 9 and 10 speed is old news. After Chrysler announced we were going to an 8 speed for RWD LVP and a 9 speed for FWD vehicles Ford and GM had to scramble to save face, late to the party yet again. Yep they added a gear to one up us, but the fact still remains Chrysler was the first to the market place yet again!
So lets hear the haters all run off at the key board about their brand sells more then little ole Chrysler or FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles as we are now known on the NYSE. McDonald's sells more Hamburgers then their competition but that sure as hell does not mean they have the best burgers.

What your not taking in consideration is the Ram also has the 8 speed trans.
It has been said that when the SAE tow rating goes in effect, it is going hurt Frod the most but not the Ram. Funny that both GM and Ram where ready to adapt the new ratings but Ford would not.
In poker that's known as a tell. As in Fords ratings are a joke, but the buying public is to stupid or gullible to understand this.
Don
Joke is pretty strong wording
10 speed joint development
And they will take your 8 and trump with 10
So where does it say the trucks are getting the 10 speed? Bet the rear drive and large vehicle platforms get the 9 not 10.
Ya should of dug more but the GM guys keep saying its coming,I am too lazy to find it and I could be wrong:o ,besides call me when they get to 12 speeds - then we'er talking'
oh and I sent the ford towing guide to Jay Leno ,hoping he reads it during his monolog,if it gets some laughs I'll be rich .
Thanks for the tip;) - NC_HaulerExplorer

Don,
You need to cut back on the goat juice my friend. Here's a video with your infamous leader's position for rating a dudge towing capacity.

link- aclayExplorerI think it's great that people have this option. Small diesels are a great addition to the line. GM is doing it for the small trucks (Colorado/Canyon), they should do it for the Silverado's too. More choices are good for truck buyers.
