First fill-up with Pilot RV Plus Card

First time using the big boy lanes today as I wanted to top off my DEF tank. I signed up for the RV Plus card to avoid the pre-pay dance and sure enough, that was a pretty frictionless experience all around.

I did, however, have to Google the "tractor vs refeer" prompt as I had zero clue what that was all about! Thankfully the truck lanes were a ghost town so I didn't worry about holding someone up who was trying to make a living :-)

Pretty nifty how you do back-to-back Diesel and DEF fills on the same transaction. Also nifty is the "holy******I'm done!" massive GPM fill rate. Fastest 140$ I've spent in a while. F350 took it wide open, surprisingly.

RV plus card is certainly handy -- love thst it's not a credit card and it auto-debits my checking account, zero hassles.

  • Reefer fuel is Red, non-taxed. Do not introduce it to a road vehicle. Va and other states have a machine that can detect red exhaust and will give you a $2500.00 ticket and you get it by mail with a GOTCHA! It looks like a camera and they just put out a sign saying "Survey Crew" We use United Frequent Flyer mileage card and get miles for fuel. Pays more that Pilot and we went to China in 2010 for $60.00.
  • From what I could tell, they are taxed differently but they are the same ULSD #2...
Some rigs use both: one for the tractor, one for refrigeration units, which isn't subject to over-the-road taxes.

Anyhow, I chose tractor. Would love to hear from someone who knows for sure what all this means, though...
  • Good to know! That reminds me I need to keep some old shoes and a rag in my truck for that. Got lucky and had a fairly clean lane this time.
  • I like the discount on the fuel as well as the easy in and out. Just watch out for the spilled diesel on the ground and wet running boards, makes for a painfull experience, don't ask me how I know.:S
