- shelbyjExplorerWow, 9.75 a gallon for DEF. I hope they at least talked dirty to him.
- 2RR2NVExplorerObviously, taking a truck into the dealer is gonna ask for a butt-raping. Unless it's required, I do my own work. Yes, more oil is gonna cost more, and DEF at the dealer is a major rip. Truck stops are much cheaper but messier. I'd go with Amazon if I can get all my stuff and Amsoil for oil.

How do you figure truck stops are messier to fill up DEF:h..I fill up or top off at a truck stop about 5 miles from my house for $2.55 a gallon and have never had a mess or even spilled a drop of SWD...you sure you know how to do it?:) Much cheaper and really quite easy to do. - boocoodinkydowExplorerShortly after I took delivery of my ecodiesel, I got info by mail that my first four services would be at no charge. Thought it was a bit odd that it was never mentioned during negotiations with the dealer. That would have been a good selling point. I just assumed this was something included on all ed units but looks like not so. That service charge is totally extreme; most services are running $125-150 which is still absurd. For the diy'ers, several oil companies are entering the market, Kendall being the latest with properly rated oil under $5/qt. with a little research the oem filter can be had for $30. The oil filter manufacturer presently markets filters under their own label & speculation one for the ed will shortly be available sub 10 bux. Not quiet as gloomy a it appears.

When I purchased my 2010 Ram 3500 dually new, I got 4 free oil changes, same with the 12' and same with the 13'....Same with the 14' Jeep Compass the wife drives, 4 free oil changes. Nothing was mentioned, nor did I ask about them, but about 2 weeks after the purchase of these vehicles, I got information in the mail telling me the first 4 oil changes were free. - boocoodinkydowExplorer

Really strange that wouldn't be one of their sales pitches. Marketing is dropping the ball on this one. Curious why this dude is having to pay for his first service. - PowerdudeExplorerWell, that's what happens when you don't do your homework, and when the oil filter is OEM only.
Give it a little while, and Purolator or some other generic company will have the specs and have a filter.
As for DEF and the price of oil, the guy went to the dealer for service.
Did he really expect anything except a sore posterior and an empty wallet afterwards? - Dave_H_MExplorer III always take my F250 to the stealer where I bought it for service. It is just a plane ole 6.2 gasser. The first one was free. Every fifth one is free now.
Also they charge me an outrageous price of 19.95 for the service. - FordloverExplorerwhat I like about this is that it brings attention to the fact that you have to look at the big picture. Only focusing on one aspect (MPG or service costs) will give you a skewed view when comparing two trucks.
From what we've seen so far the ED is getting impressive fuel economy, but depressing service costs.
As far as the light they speak of that is on back order, is that a left over part from the days of Chrysler's super cheap interiors?
