hey all. looking for opinionsnew 2016 F150 (left on the lot) with XLT pack (some toys) and the 5.0 but has 331 gears and 7000 gvwr packageor 2017 ram no toys but standard gears.opinions on gears (my tow rig wont top over 5000lb) looking for milage without feeling like a doglongevity (I know the hemi has been out longer but the 5.0 seems well liked) I keep vehicles a long time and want to keep her runningthe aluminum body of the ford (I live in the rust beltany other little quirks

You should post this in the towing or tow vehicle forums - maybe the mod will move it.

My advice from having made mistakes when buying a tow vehicle in the past is to look beyond the towing capacity and look at the PAYLOAD rating.Lots of trucks out there can pull, but what they can carry when loaded with passengers, gear, AND the loaded trip ready tongue weight of a trailer is the real issue.Good luck with your search.

Im not sure I would purchase any gas vehicle for towing with out at least 3:73 gears. The extra gears that come in the new tranny can not overcome the high gear ratio you are looking at on the Ford.

Whatever you do, get the factory towing mirrors. They are essential. I also really like having an integrated brake controller. At 5000 lbs and under I think either truck will work fine as a tow vehicle. If mileage is a big consideration you might give the ecodiesel some thought.

I'm biased but I do like white trucks. Congrats and it looks great - I bet it will serve you very well.

^ also although I LOVE the pinery my furnace is not exactly reliable and as much as the daughter and myself would love it, the wife and the baby would not. Once again gotta keep momma happy.

That will give plenty of break-in time, before you start towing. Congrats, glad you got the deal done, and nice to start out new. Just curious, what color did you get?

thanks for all the support guys feeling better now that its done. daughter asked me a few days ago when we could go camping (since its abnormally warm here) was sad to tell her not for a few months.
