Something to consider, you said "fired it back up, ran alright."
That doesn't happen if the injection pump grenades. Period.
It doesn't even happen if the ip blows a seal or loses any compressing ability.
221kmi, it was likely due for injectors anyway unless it had secondary filtration its whole life and added lubricity to the fuel, but the rest doesn't pass the sniff test as honest mechanic work.
