- Retired_andLoveExplorerI traded it off. It developed some electrical gremlins. I wasn't real happy with the tow either. The mechanic at the dealer worked on it 4 days last week and as of Friday afternoon thinks that maybe the ABS sensor was the cause of according to him at least 25 codes. The new truck was invoiced before January 1 and had some good incentives that came off invoice price. I actually was able to trade for a little less than $1000 over the cost of the diesel upgrade. New truck, old inventory.

Hill country is where the 6.7l shines its brightest. There is no replacement for the massive torque of the 6.7l
I should be able to pick up my new 6.7 Tuesday or Wednesday. Won't get a chance to use it until after the 4th of July due to schedule. My first pull will include some hilly country though not mountainous. It will be a new experience for me so I appreciate the advice too.

Getting rid of your 2015 gasser already? Or passing it on to the wife? You'll love the new 6.7. - blofgrenExplorer

We are in Branson and the trip down was GREAT! The EB worked as advertised, used it on "Full" on the way down may try "Auto" on the way back. The brake controller worked just fine also. The 5th wheel is a little nose high so I checked temps of the hubs and tires with a laser thermometer. The tires and hubs on the rear axle were about 5 degrees higher than the front axle. The truck pulled perfectly. That 6.7L and 6sp tranny is awesome.
I knew you would be happy! They pull very well don't they?
I have the same issue with the trailer being nose high. Luckily it has adjustable suspension so I'll have it raised which should minimize the problem. - rhagfoExplorer III

I wouldn't set it in full(orange icon) exhaust brake. I think auto(green icon) is much better to keep on while you drive. I only set it on full exhuast brake when I want to slow down since it kicks in everytime you let off the accelerator. In auto mode it only kicks on when I apply the brakes, go over my cruise control speed, or go over the last speed that I was at when I let off the accelerator.
When in "AUTO" mode the EB "IS" working and will be just as aggressive as in "FULL" mode when it needs to be. It is working all the time.
I think Shiner is just illustrating that when he predicts a situation where he will be continuously decelerating or needs to aggressively decelerate without brake actuation, full-on tends to be better for that. I personally just stick with green and lightly press the brakes to activate the EB in auto mode when I need it.
Gee's you two OP's 5er only has a 10,700# GVWR. Yes, play with the EB to find the best setting.
His biggest issue will be checking the mirrors to be sure the 5er is still in tow!!
If he is towing in flat land I would worry less about the EB, and learn very quickly how to use the CRUISE CONTROL!! Otherwise OP will likely be seeing Blue Lights in the mirrors!!! - Showme_5vrExplorerWe are in Branson and the trip down was GREAT! - 1100SabreExplorerWe got a new 2015 Chevy with the exhaust brake too. Our 2009 we traded didn't have that option, just the tow/haul mode in the tranny. I thought that was cool but the first trip out with the new truck was incredible!! You gotta love the technology!! Tow/haul mode plus engine brake equals great big grin on face!!
- wanderingbobExplorer IIOn semi-level ground I would not use the tow/haul mode !!
- Cummins12V98Explorer IIIYes going down hill when letting off it will sense you want to maintain the speed you let off at.
If your EB is not coming on with it in auto mode "AT ALL" then there is something wrong, I assume you just don't notice it is working. It's there and increases as needed depending on the conditions. Just not as noticeable as "FULL ON".
