We're getting ready to purchase our first TT. We've done a little looking and like Lance quality and the 1995 model. We're willing to go with a 2016 or newer used. The only catch is that we'd like to keep the investment under 20k and I'm not sure we can do that with the Lance.
One alternative we're going to look at this weekend is the Apex 191rbs. It looks like we could get a 2018 new somewhere around $16 or $17k. Then I expect there will be some add ons.
Any first hand experience or opinions? We want to buy something that will last within reason.
We plan to use the TT in 2 ways - for shorter local trips in beautiful NH and for at least 1 trip a year for 4+ weeks. We may want to do some boondocking in places like MT. Lance has 45g tanks/Apex 30g. Not sure what we would need for boondocking.
Thanks for your help!
In an overall sense, a more important issue in my mind, is how well you maintain the RV. Very few of them are built to extreme high quality standards.
My method was to buy a new travel trailer in the floorplan I liked, then went over it with a fine tooth comb fixing and modding every weakness I could find.
Follow that up with meticulous and constant maintenance. And use it. A lot. Enjoy it.
It ain't gonna last forever, but then neither am I, so I'm more interested in whether it will last as long as I want to use it, and is it affordable ? It would have done me little good to have had to spend three or four times as much to buy it, blowing a hole in the budget for actually using it.
EDIT: ps, for what it's worth, is a Lance better made ? I don't know about all of them, but a friend just bought a new one ( 2018 ) and it's already been back to the dealer for a couple of major leaks and some other poor assembly issues ( door popping open driving down the road, etc ). It at least appears to me this trailer is no better (or worse) than other brands.
Looking at their website, it looks like they are good at "marketing" them, and that is sometimes how companies manage to command a premium price, if you see what I mean.
