Flooded bathroom

I left my bathroom faucet trickling so my pipes wouldn't freeze. When I woke up the next day the floor was soaked and my black holding tank was full to the top even though I had just emptied it two days before. What happened? The pipes under the sink weren't wet.
  • While moving water can most certainly freeze I think the idea is the moving water will bring some heat from the source to avoid freezing. Not sure why people run the cold water.

Sounds like bathroom sink drains into black tank and you overfilled it which then leaked out from toilet....either around floor flange gasket or toilet pedestal

Leaving faucet trickle is not a good idea to begin with.

Furnace running/maintaining a comfortable temp inside rv works.
Opening lower cabinet doors at night helps increase warm air circulation around pipes

IF you can't keep trailer plumbing above freezing then drain system

Absolutely correct. Any person living in the west can tell you even waterfalls and moving bodies of water can freeze. That water trickle not freezing is a myth.
  • Sounds weird.
The bathroom sink should drain into your gray water tank, and then if that got full it would have come up in your bath tub.

Do you have a gray water tank ? If yes, someone screwed up your bathroom sink drains plumbing.

  • Oh, dear. Any chance you have insurance?? That would be call #1, otherwise, plus get a wet vac and start. Fans and heaters...once you have a good dry area or on top of a cabinet. Good luck.
  • A trickle of water exiting via the sewer hose will eventually result in a total freeze up via ice layering.
  • All I can say is dry it out as fast as possible campers don't take to water like a brick and mortar. Just pray that the luan flooring and the bottom of the walls didn't get soaked, it don't take much water to destroy this kind of construction. Unfortunately this is the way most trailers are built. Good luck.
