Foldable/removable shelf extension (pix)

This was one of the reasons we upgraded to a new TT - our old one had virtually no counter space. And I'm an engineer that camps, so I notice these flaws right away. Unfortunately I dodn't know better when we originally bought our previous TT. ;)

I got the brackets from Amazon. you can search for 8" Folding Shelf Bracket. The vendor is Jack's Tool Shed. The cost is very reasonable they are sold in pairs for $11.89 including shipping.

I bought the flush mount bracketts off the rack at a local independent building supply, but you can also get them from Amazon. Here is a LINK that will show you a clos-up of the hanger.

Just a final note: The shelf is technically called a torsion box. It's made like a hollow door. There is a grid inside with a thin (1/8") skin top and bottom. Finally I laminated a scrap of formica to the top. A torsion box is ideal for this project because it is very strong but lightweight, and it is very resistant to warping.

Yes, the shelf partially obstructs the door when it is extended, but we can side-step between the shelf and bed to get in/out. The shelf is very easily folded so we keep it folded except when actually in use.

Mating flush mounted hardware on the folding brackets and shelf bottom allow the shelf to be lifted off the brackets to access the control panel.

Nice job, but I wonder where in the world they originally thought you were going to do any food prep with ZERO counterspace. Another example of a TT designed by engineers that have never camped in their life.
