Folding Tonneau Cover, Leer Trilogy or Extang Solid Fold 2.0

Dealer has both on display. I want the most water tight cover so that's the priority out of these 2.

Dealer pointed out the differences why he feels the Leer is better. The big thing is that the Solid Fold 2.0 can get dirt in the hinge opening and buckle the top. My previous standard Solid Fold had a buckle on the top near the hinge and now I'm wonder if something got into the hinge and caused that.

The issue I'm worried about the Trilogy is that it uses a molding in rubber interior cover over the hinge to keep it from leaking. I'm worried this rubber will dry out and crack after a few years. There's no way to replace this piece without replacing the panel so it's a big deal.

I don't know how well the Solid Fold 2.0 will keep water out of it hinges. I didn't have real good luck with the previous Solid Fold and makes me gun shy about it.

The Trilogy has built in LED lights in the panel so that's a bonus. I can see a little light through the Trilogies hinges at the corners where the rubber ends, but coworker and dealer assure me it won't leak there.

The Trilogy seems to be nicer and simpler but I'm worried about that rubber seal.

I would like to keep these hard folding covers for security and keeping my hitch and other gear locked up. I'd also like to keep the raccoons away from stuff in there as well. The Raccoons would slash open a soft cover to get garbage or anything else left in the bed of the truck. It would be nice having the hard cover for situations like that.

So what's everyone's take on these 2 covers??
  • I got my Leer Trilogy last week. Found out Leer doesn't make it. It's just a Rugged Liner Hard Folding Cover rebadged. Still pretty nice and my price was actually pretty good considering I bought it from a local dealer that has many 2016 F150 cover in stock, being they're pretty popular.

Also got my Ford Sportliner bedliner by Bedrug also installed.

  • Thanks everyone. I actually found a dealer that sold the Leer Trilogy and the Solid Fold 2.0 and had each next to each other on display. The Leer won and that's what I bought. $900 then a $50 coupon for $850.

Really like it. It addresses some of the issues with the Solid Fold and it has 2 lights, each compromising 3 LEDs.

I bought a Solid Fold about three years ago. It is not watertight, some water still gets in. The part I really don't like is it's kind of difficult to fold up. I'm 5'9" and the bedrails on my truck are about chin level so getting the three sections on the 8' model to fold up requires a lot of muscle.

Standard or the Solid Fold 2.0? The 2.0 is a different design. My previous Extang Original Solid Fold with the 1st hinge design leaked a lot. The Original Solid Fold with the 2nd hinge design leaked hardly at all but the cover fell apart.

The 2.0 is a different design and is made of different materials.

You can fold it from the rear instead of the sides. I will be, as I did on the 2010 F150, be taking it off a lot. I take it off when I put the bikes in the bed, or other tall things. That's why I'm getting one of those because they are so easy to take off.

I want the water tightness and bed accessibility of my Extang Classic Platinum Snap on cover, but without the inconvenience of having to take the frame apart every time I need to fill the bed and roll the cover to the cab.

Thought about retracting hard covers but they all leak badly and even then, need drain tube to the bed drain holes, and the tube plug easily from dirt.

Every type of cover has negatives, but the fold up covers seem to offer everything but are not the best at everything.
