the exchange programs are so convenient, that it makes owning and getting a tank refilled largely a thing of the past, unless you happen to live near a very convenient place with a refilling station.

Those exchange outfits short change you 5 lbs of propane! Yep, that's right, you ONLY GET 15 lbs of propane not 20 lbs of propane for $20!!!
This spring I had one of my 30 lb cylinders refilled at my local Mom & Pop hardware store.. Cost me a whopping $18 plus tax or about $20 for 30 lbs of propane..
Those exchanges are making TWICE the price of propane in profits and folks who don't want to be bothered with waiting 5 minutes to get a cylinder refilled are more than willing to pay that steep price in the name of "convenience".
A 20 lb cylinder FILLED with 20 lbs of propane should cost you not much more than $15 WITH TAX.
