In Canada, it's 10years and they do check. We had a single 2 year old "old style" 20# on a pop-up trailer. We were in Montana and ran out. It was cold, early in the season, in fact we got snowed on. We had to pay for an exchange as they wouldn't fill it. At home I had a 9year old one on the BBQ.
