The only real issue with GM trucks is that the 4WD sits at the same height as a 2WD! Maybe OK for the old people, but not good for those of us that use a 4WD as it was intended!
I have had 14 4WD vehicles (Willys, Ford, Dodge, Chevy, Toyota, Jeep) and SUVs going back to a 1952 Willys, and most had solid axles. I was delighted when Toyota went to IFS as it provided a much smoother ride on the highway and offroad as well. It also provided better ground contact for improved traction on unpaved surfaces. Try to find an offroad race vehicle with a solid front axle. And there is the terribly performing IFS Hummer military vehicles. What was the Army thinking in going with IFS?
With my GM 2500 with 4WD the distance from the ground to the door sill is 24 inches. Only a kid or a novice would want a truck higher off the ground and with a higher center of gravity that makes it easier to break drive shafts and easier to roll the vehicle.
