To me, the knock on the EcoBoost is not it's pulling power. It has demonstrated itself to be far superior to naturally aspirated V6 engines, and is on par, or maybe even slightly better than a larger displacement gas V8.
It is a very good towing motor. IMO, where it has not lived up to expectations/hype is in MPG. Not talking about the 2.7, but the 3.5 does not have a MPG advantage over the competitively powered V8s from Chevy and Dodge, towing or single.
What motor is Ford targeting as competition for the 2.7? I always thought that the Chevy 5.3 (especially the new one) was more of a competitor to the 3.5. And does RAM even offer a V8 smaller than the 5.7 anymore?
The 2.7 will out pull the 3.0 EcoDiesel, but I doubt they will be competitors in MPG.
