The ford truck enthusiasts web forum has had a meetup at some fellows house in WV that is right near a hill that they claim to be 18% grade.
They have ran a number of trucks up that hill towing a 15k lb. dump trailer full of gravel.
There are videos of it all on youtube.
The 6.2 gas with 4.30 is basically the same speed at the top of the hill as a 6.7 powerstroke (within 2 mph) I think it even beat at least one 6.7 powerstroke in top speed on the hill.
The 3.5 ecoboost is also within a mph or two of the 6.2 and the 6.7 powerstroke. The 6.2 gas and the 3.5 ecoboost both reach a higher top speed than the 6.0 and 6.4 diesels. The only truck that is significantly slower is the guy that ran a 2002 or so v10 2 valve. it ran about 10 mph slower and on the really steep section where the others ran 25 mph it was going about 10.
So yeah a 2.7 ecoboost may very well tow neck and neck with a 5.9 cummins.
