Lots of theories here on what does what, but hook 10,000 lbs behind my 345 HP Duramax and 10,000 lbs behind your ecoboost, and I will stop and wait for you when I get up to the Eisenhower Tunnel at the top of the pass. I will drive the speed limit, and you will wish you could. Argue all you want, but I have never had a gasser pulling a trailer pass me going up the mountain. I don't "race" up the hill, I just follow the speed limits.
Sorry but you are mistaken.
#1, why does your Dmax only have 345HP?
#2, here is a vid you might want to watch. It was posted earlier but you might have missed it.
#3, 6.4 diesel towing 15K.
As you can see from the vid's above, both the Ecoboost and the 6.4 diesel pulled the hill at 50MPH. The 6.4 diesel is renowned for it's pulling power because it's a "diesel". But when pointed out that the EB puts out about the same HP, people say things like: "I will stop and wait for you when I get up to the Eisenhower Tunnel at the top of the pass" just because they own a diesel. :h
You may wait on him or he may wait on you but with both of these engines putting out about the same HP it's going to be VERY close either way.
There are plenty of videos of an Ecoboost pulling 10k lbs up the Eisenhower grade holding the speed limit all the way up.
Or you can take my real-world use. Sure, my trailer only weighs about 6500 lbs. But I've towed it with my 365 hp, 650 tq Duramax (the vaunted LBZ) and my 365 hp, 420 tq Ecoboost up the Parleys summit on I80 out of Salt Lake City. Not quite Eisenhower, but 8 miles of 5-7% topping out at over 7000 ft elevation, including the last shot which is fairly straight and 7% grade. Both trucks can hold 70 mph up that last section; I doubt either could go much faster (I never tried, 70 is fast enough, but both are working pretty hard).
Wide open throttle and no traffic, the difference would likely be on a few seconds, tops.
