I guess what I am asking, is will the 5.4 be equivalent to my current 360 in pulling power? If it will be any less, I will just opt for a v-10 as I feel like I am border line on power as it is.
What you have now is 245hp and 335 ft/lbs of torque advertised. My 5.4L advertises 310 hp and 360 ft/lbs of torque. The F250 might weigh a bit more than the 2500HD Dodge. It should be similar. For comparison, my 2005 Hemi powered 2500HD Ram would out tow the 5.4L F250 in the upper rpm range but the 5.4L seems to have a tad more grunt at 2k rpm where we run at 65mph most of the time on the flats with no head wind. Throw in any resistance and it runs 2700~rpm in direct. Uphills be they 250 feet rise in the Florida panhandle or Virginia will often have it in 3rd at 4200rpm 65mph.
I would have preferred a V10 but I use my truck mainly as a daily work truck. At 25k~~ miles a year, the little bit better mileage of the 5.4L made better sense for me. The $8k option for the diesel and the potential for $10k plus repairs over a drop of water made no sense at all.
I'm very happy with our 5.4L F250 but, like I said, I wouldn't recommend it to others. Some folks call "any" downshift struggling. Some even claim towing heavy up long mountain grades in O/D and would never run their diesel 3k rpm. :B
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_1ZefREs0YAnd a 5.4L towing 8200~lbs up to speed. This is what ours sounds and accelerates like in our F250 towing our 5th wheel. Put it to the floor and it'll run up to about 4500rpm before shifting.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_ZC3h3SEpcNotice the trailer in the mirrors. The Youtube videos that don't show a trailer are because the owner of the video isn't towing one.
