Ford 6.2 Mileage while towing

with my signature rig Ford 6.2, 3.73 gears and 12,000 lbs FW...I'll get 8 mpg at 65 mph....7 mpg with a good head wind.

I can get 9+ mpg if I go 60 mph or less. Kind of hard to do on the interstate and not get run over in 75 mph area.

The key with 3.73 gears is using manual on the interstate and in rolling terrain.

FYI...just got back from a 900 mile round trip and I have almost 10,000 miles pulling this FW.

The next one I will order the 4.30 gear :)

Chuck, have you had the spark plugs changed?

Any gas motor pulling a TT or enclosed trailer at 65-70mpg will get 7-10mph guarantied.

Weight plays little role when towing compared to air resistance.

What goes up must come down and what is in motion tends to stay in motion. Look it up...its the rule. Something called physics.

The 6.2 is a great engine. Fuel economy will be single digits towing, but he will be saving $6K+ buying a gas over a diesel, so it takes a LONG time for the fuel economy to play out.

I'm sure he will be plenty happy with the gas, just be prepared for higher revolutions (normal) and less power at higher elevations (normal).

my 2012 F 250 . 6.2L with 3:73.. 1,500 in bed of truck and 9,000 pound travel trailer...

I average 8 to 10.. stay under 70....... or else, plan on 6....

and my 6.2 has 150,000 miles. no trouble. and does not drink oil..

I personally, have been lied to and had more practical jokes played on me by them pesky little hybrid engines. (Me being a smart @$$)

He's just not a fan of DEF and emissions ****. He had a 2007 6.7 Cummins that gave him a lot of trouble with the DPF constantly clogging up. I know those initial diesels with emission control technology had a lot of flaws that had to be worked out but he likely won't give them another chance.

When I had my 2013 6.2 with 3.73s, I got anywhere in the 7s pulling the Work & Play. I usually kept it up around 66 mph on the interstates.

I have a 16 Ford supercab with a 6.2 V8 with 3.73 gears 20K miles on it and towing a 10k+ 38'TT. I'm usually towing in the hills of New England and trips down south. It consistently gets 9-10 MPG towing. When I head south in late february with the temps in the single digits its 7.5 and when I'm back in the 60+ range I'm back to 9. The best I've ever done is 12 following in the slipstream of a box truck 60MPH.

I also have a full cap on the truck with kayaks on the roof (I keep telling myself this is helping my mileage, but we know better...). Best advise I have; keep the tires inflated to the max and keep the speed at 65.

I know you are asking about Ford's 6.2, but for comparison purposes, my Chev 6.0 with 4.10 gets around 8MPG while towing. I think most gassers get around the same.

We get 8 to 9 pulling a 16K trailer but we have 4.30 gears.
