Put the truck in tow/haul, lock out 6th gear, engage engine braking, hold on and enjoy the ride.
11,600# GVWR 5er, and you lockout 6th gear, why? :h
I always tow in OD and only drop to 4th (direct) on a steep hill, and I don't have near the HP or torque as you.
Simply my opinion and nothing more. I just don't see any reason to tow anything more than say 6000# in sixth gear. The truck will and can do it, no argument from me here at all. I just like staying in the sweeter RPM range (1400-1800), and the truck (mine at least) gets better MPG at 63-65 MPH in 5th gear towing than if I let it switch to and fro. Maybe in the flat lands with no traffic interruptions, grades, and cruising along, it will probably be just fine. But here in West Central GA we have a few rolling hills and such. My experience has been that locking out 6th gear it purrs along and never downshifts to 4 unless it's a pretty decent climb.
Take it for what it's worth. I never said it was the gospel.
