Or for those who don't want the big up front cost of a diesel.
That reminds me of a co-worker of mine. He bought a Ram 6.4L Laramie. Said he didn't want to pay the $8k for the diesel option yet paid $11k for the Laramie option which left me scratching my head.
If your going to take more time going up and down the hills, you best be comfortable. Personally, I don't spend the money for a High Country or Denali, but I am all in at the LTZ/SLT trim level. The gas trucks I bought, cause I didn't want to spend the money for a diesel for the purpose the truck filled, were still upper trim levels. If I have to put in more hours or generate more income to make the dollars work to get into something more comfortable, for me it is important enough to do that. - ShinerBockExplorer

The extra torque will be welcommed by the MH folks, but I am surprised they are downing the hp to 350 on the f-53, be it by rev limiting, it's still a means of detuning. I know that the MH builders would love for the extra power to show on the specs for sales of longer and heavier units.
That is why people like 5 Star tuning make a killing in the MH market.
The only reason why it is de-tuned in the first place is because an EPA mandate says than an incomplete vehicle chassis has to go through an engine dyno certification as opposed to a chassis dyno certification that complete trucks are allowed to go through. The engine dyno certification is much more stringent then the chassis dyno certification so the manufacturers have to de-tune them even more than they already are to meet the requirements.
It is like back in the 70 and 80s when the EPA mandates forced the manufacturers to de-tune their once high horsepower V8's to the point where 4 and 6 bangers were blowing their doors off. - mountainkowboyExplorerMight just keep Red and put a stump puller in her, never know. I can get a mildly built, smog legal 550+lbs of tq 460 for around 6K otd. that would make her a BEAST!!
- BenKExplorer350 hp, and 468 tq....Way beyond cool !!!!
Anyone have the torque curve? or know if it will be direct injected ?
Been waiting for this, though GM.
Been driving something similar since 1996. Ordered a 1996 7.4L, 4.1/G80, Suburban K3500. 4 speed automatic
My 1996 7.4L torque is 410 at around 2K RPM and 290 HP. The newer 8.1L bumps the torque about 40 ft/lbs and HP by about 50
Would drop noodling the mods (GearVendors 0.70 OD to turn my 4 speed into an 8 speed and 5.38's in the diffs) for my 7.4L if GM came out with a similar big block for the Suburban or full sized Van !!! - wanderingaimlesExplorerThe extra torque will be welcommed by the MH folks, but I am surprised they are downing the hp to 350 on the f-53, be it by rev limiting, it's still a means of detuning. Nice boost in power but, what will the MPG be? I am glad I pulled the trigger on a 2019 (rather than wait for the new platform) and got the tried and true 6.2. I am only towing 8000lbs. I think many were expecting more of a 'raising of the bar' by Ford.
To be honest, as much at a 500ft lb modern HD gasser would have been cool, It didn't expect the numbers to be as high as TFL predicted.
Makes more sense for them to beat the competition by 10-15hp/ft lbs, and leave power on the table for the later "arms race".
I think it will most likely be capable of those numbers, but no need to put all the cards on the table now.
The power curve does look really nice though. Thats what all those cubic inches gets you! - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIIf looking for a gasser I would check it out.
