- ACZLExplorerIn the 90's, GM's 7.4 was a 454 and I think Ford's 7.? was a 460. Am I right? Granted they didn't have the numbers as they will today, but displacement wise....the same. What was GM's 8.1 back in early 2000???
- camperdaveExplorerI love that it's an iron blocked pushrod engine, and I'm sure it will be extremely powerful, but it's not even as big as the old 460 Ford used to have.
And what's with the 10 speeds? Is the powerband going to be that narrow? - timmacExplorerSomething tells me the HP/Torque will be about the same as the 3 valve V-10..
Also I would not want the 1st or 2nd year of any new motor/transmission design, it took a few years for the V-10 to work out its issues.
Remember the spark plug blowing out issue.. :E - Big_KatunaExplorer IINow they just need to bring back the Crown Vic or Maurader and stick that motor in.
Thank the Lord for the big block Ford! - kw_00ExplorerIt will be a great engine, it looks like they borrowed some look and tech of the GM LS engines or just went back to the original design of their previous generation engine prior the Triton series. Regardless as I’m a so called fellow gear head, I’m loving the new gas engines. Can’t wait to see them all pull the IKE. I also like the fact that Ford is using this engine in larger trucks. I hope GMs new LS engine 6.6 will be the same. Oh and they followed GMs 6 bolt mains, bravo Ford. I’m glad they have, makes for better structural integrity and longevity. This engine will and should be impressive.
- Iraqvet05Explorer$4200 option over the 6.2? That's half the cost of a 6.7 option.
- dodge_guyExplorer II“Not boosted, but it’s ready for boost!” What does that tell you!
- Grit_dogNavigatorSweet!
Great option. Especially for work trucks. The gassers are always a little anemic for towing and big Const companies like ours don’t buy many diesels for crew trucks.
Agreed great time to be alive if you’re a gearhead! - parker_roweExplorer

I wonder what the fuel mileage will be towing say 12,000# and empty?
Probably similar to the current gassers, but with a lot less downshifting. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

While there are some DRW 6.2s on the road, the 7.3, if meeting expectations, will likely up the number of gas DRW vehicles being used to tow.

I would say Truck/Camper combo's will go this route for sure.
