A great engine that tme and technology has passed by.

Idk if tech passed it by. If it was under the hood of a Chevy or dodge they’d be selling more. The Eco boost is just that attractive. Loved the 5.0. Pulled trailers as well as my subsequent 6.2 F250s.

It wasn't technology that passed the 5 liter Ford V8 by. This is a very modern engine, ..DOHC..4 valves per cylinder...high rpm. A buddy has one in his 2014 F 150...great engine, lots of power, although the 3.5 turbo V6 has greater torque and being turbocharged doesn't lose punch at higher elevations.I prefer the sound of a V8 and probably would get the 5 liter V8 as opposed to the turbo V6...but doesn't Ford have some audio system that provides an artificial (phony) high performance sound through the speakers when their engines are winding high ? If this low order rate continues I can see the 5 liter DOHC V8 being dropped altogether. I know the Mustang uses a version of it and a V8 is important for it's image, but I could also see Ford replacing the V8 in the Mustang with the eco boost V6, after all they in the new Ford GT, they used a turbo V6, not a V8...which surprised me. Nowadays manufacturers, particularly Ford, GM are pretty ruthless about cutting product...traditional product out of the lineup...sedans, etc...and nothing anymore surprises me. I'm a traditionalist and I find it sad to see the Ford V8 wither away. Ford V8's from the flathead V8 on have been prominent in my life for years, although I did see the light back in the 1960's and have been a Chevy V8 guy since then. ;)

I guess the V8 sound through the speakers is good enough for most people. I'd probably want the bigger Ecoboost if I were buying a half ton.

I kind of miss my old EcoBoost sometimes. With a custom tune and an intake, you could clearly hear those turbos spool. I missed that with my current truck until I replaced the stock turbo with an S364SXE. Now I can hear the sweet turbo music. I would take that over a loud V8 most days.

I still find it hard to believe that Ford has to produce fake sound for their ecoboost. And even harder to believe people buy it.
