My take on it is there is simply little demand for a non-sports / muscle car coupe or sedan. Looking at my own extended family, wife's family, etc. I can think of only one person that currently has a "sedan", my son has a 2008 Nissan Sentra, mainly because it gets about 34 mpg, and he has a 50 mile commute each way 5 days per week at the moment. Everyone else in the greater family unit has a Truck, SUV, Crossover, or sporty / muscle car. Even my 80 year old mother recently gave in and bought a small crossover a couple of years ago (BMW X3), after many years of only ever driving sedans, and after a bit of adjustment she admits she could never go back with the easier access, higher seat position, etc. She is also the designated driver among several of her friends that no longer drive, and they all appreciate the easier entry and exit of the crossover.
