You're good. A set of heavy tires and a little help for the rear springs and that thing is solid as a rock.
People think somehow a 8500lb dually is ok towing 30k but a 6000lb half ton isn't capable for a 10k trailer...

If 1703 is the number from your tire / loading sticker, that is the capacity the truck had when it left the factory. If aftermarket accessories have been added (bed liner, bed cover / cap, etc) their weight must be subtracted.

Now subtract weight of your family, pets, and any cargo that would normally go in the truck for a camping trip. Whatever is left over, is available to carry the weight distributing hitch (about 100 lbs), sway bars (if needed), and loaded tongue weight.

You do of course know that all gas engines have engine braking. It's kind of built in to a gas engine. The lower the gear you pick, the more braking it has.

When you plop 1100 lbs of tongue on that and two adults and two dogs, you're almost at capacity. Anything much else....tools, bikes, coolers, spare tire, generator, and then you're way over your 1700 lbs. Not really a question of whether the truck has enough engine or brakes, it probably does. More a question of weight carrying capacity. Will it do it? For sure! Should you do it? Maybe not.
PS: I'm not the weight police, but he's a good friend of mine.

“1703.cargo capacity” Sorry but that’s puny. 2018 Tahoes, an SUV, are 1,698 to 1,745 lbs.

I pull a 30 foot SportTrek loaded weight 8600# with same truck and have had no issues. The max tow package has a engine brake which is great help going down hill. I switched to a equalizer hitch with built in sway control which is a big improvement over the old style hitch I was using.

You will be impressed with engine power pulling that weight. But, as others said, there is more to it than pulling. The weakest link we've found is braking. There have been a handful of times that I've been nervous about it on long downhills. Second weakest point is crosswinds. Both conditions will be a concern for you.

What is your payload rating from the door sticker?
"Occupants and cargo not to exceed.....?" You're going to run out of payload before anything else likely.

So what size sway control weight distribution hotch should I be looking at?
