The base V6's are an interesting lot... For the Ford 3.7, it makes more power than my 1997 Mustang Cobra did. It makes more power than the older 4.6, 5.0, and the 5.4. Yet it tows less than all of them? Don't get it... And spare me the "it's a V6" - they can be made just as tough as a V8. The Ecoboost is proof of that and even the Cummins which makes great power from "only" 6 holes.
In the Ram/Ford debate, hands down Ford....
What I find interesting is that Ram is gaining more sales % wise in January than it's competitors compared to last month a year ago. I am seeing a ton of the 3.6's in Ram 1500's for same new. With 3.55 Axle ratios you get 7400 lbs of towing. That's near what my 97 F150 5.4 was rated to pull.
From the Ford perspective, why would they sell you a NA "base V6 that can toe 7400 lbs when you can buy a 5.0?
However, Ram did! And they are selling like hot cakes.
It will be interesting to see who is the first on RV.net to use a Pentastar to pull a camper... Who knows, maybe it will be me?
Thanks!
