This makes me wonder why Harley Davidson switched from chains to belts and claimed that it was a huge improvement. I have seen timing belts in CNC machine tools last 20 years of three shift operations.
HA! My dad use to give Harley guys a hard time and say they only needed a belt because they didn't make enough power to stretch one. Obviously just some good natured brand rivalry.
Modern belts can be pretty good. If you are going to call it a deal killer, why not just say if it doesn't have timing GEARS then I don't want it? Chains can stretch too...unreliable modern junk. :)
Because I had a car one time that had a timing belt. It broke, dropped a valve and destroyed an engine. Have never suffered that kind of problem with a chain in over 700K+ miles and 36 years of drivng.
