Ford F150 is going Powerstroke Diesel

Upsides :

• 250 hp, 440 lb-ft
• 30/22/25 highway/city/combined 4x2 SuperCrew
• Tow 11,400 pounds

Downsides :

• 4x4 is 25 MPG because of other options.
• It will be available to retail F150 customers in both the 4x2 and 4x4 ONLY on the Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum edition SuperCrew. (No XL or XLT for retail customers.)
• Payload 2,020 pounds
• Estimated to be $3000-$4000 option

Another question. what will it do to the F150 payload. As I remember the payload of the 1500 Ram Diesel sort of went way down. Will the 150 be the same way?

WTI is almost at $70/barrel so fuel prices will continue the upward trend as well. Having said that if I were in the .5 ton market today I would go with gas power.

But will the oil change cost 100+ bucks like when the Ecodiesel was first released?

Maybe. The negative I see if that you pay a premium for less performance. Better fuel economy too, but that less performance part might be a tough pill for people to swallow. Especially since the newer gas options are getting better and better fuel economy in their own right.

The little diesel market is a different animal than the Cummins, Powerstroke and Duramax in the HD market - those offer better fuel economy as well as substantially better performance.

but it,ll take a couple wheel barrels full of big bucks to buy one. I like it just can,t afford it.

I am holding out for a plug-in hybrid of the eco-boost.

Unless fuel prices skyrocket, I expect no more than a 10% take rate on this little diesel. Not enough monetary benefit for the 100+ horsepower you will loose versus other F150 engines like the Ecoboost.

This will be a winner for them.

Equally interesting is that it's coming with a 10 speed auto trans. from what I read a while back.
That should make it a very competitive puller.
