I think at this point in time if you're happy with a gasser, I'm happy for you. Gas is $1.90 and diesel is $2.25. It's a wash on per mile costs. The up-front cost of a diesel is the deal breaker. But if you need one, you need one.
I think about my old 1982 F-250 with a cabover pulling a utility trailer full of hunting stuff. That 300cu in 6 cylinder may have had 160 net horsepower. Down shift and floor it.
