I have a F350 with the tow prep package in an 8 ft bed. I'd like to get a hitch from Ford. On their accessories web page they offer 2 hitches. The one rated for 27.5k GTWR is $200 cheaper than the hitch with the 26.5k GTWR. Does anyone know what the difference is and why the 27.5 is actually the cheaper one?

Ford does not make hitches. Buy one from a hitch dealer.

Likely one is a newer model and the other is an older model that is still available.

I do realize that Ford does not make the hitch. I believe the "Ford hitch" is made by Reese. My understanding is that I would need an adapter to use another brand of hitch since the holes are already in the bed. This would make the hitch sit a bit higher and leaves the adapter in the truck. I'd like to be able to easily take the hitch out and leave the bed clear when not hauling.Thank you for the responses so far. I'm new to all this. Any responses or opinions are appreciated.

There are multiple manufacturers that make a hitch to fit the Ford factory prep without need for an adapter. B&W, Pullrite, Reese, Curt, and maybe another. All make good hitches.
