I watched the video and thought he was being objective. I have driven a IDI for work, 6.4L's and 6.7L's and owned 2 each 6.4l's and 6.0L's and I agree with him. One thing people don't think of when they mention fleet is that many drivers beat the hell out of truck without regards to its well being. Our 6.4'ls and 6.7's at work are always in the shop because they have issues related to incomplete regens and lots of idling. Also you would be amazed at how they treat it daily. It will be -30F and they will start it up and immediately rev it to get heat in it sooner or start driving it aggressively. Bill probably makes more money repairing the 6.4Ls so him warning people against abused or non maintained trucks is really going against his business interest. He has a lot of videos that some people are critical of or complain but I enjoy them.
My personal shop recommends 6.0's also and he owns a 6.4L and drags/pulls with a 7.3L.
To the OP I feel your pain I had one 6.4L that had the popping noise from intake (valvetrain) and another one that had the oil in coolant (front cover) then oil cooler went south. They are quiet strong engines (esp tuned) but need a deep pocket or ext warranty to keep them going if they develop any problems. If I was you I would talk to the mechanics about alternatives than replacing everything with all new parts depending on the current value of the truck and/or how much you are attached to it.
