Ford injector pump failure

The injector pump in my 2009 F250 failed and fouled the injectors. 22 day out of extended warranty and Ford won't pay. Has anyone had similar problems and how much can I expect to pay to have it replaced?

Thanks,

Jeff

    This guy had one

Sorry OP. Hopefully they won't have to replace your fuel lines and fuel tank. That should bring the price down somewhat.

Take whatever they will give you on trade in and be done with the 6.4. Then you will have a CP4.2 injection system, so buy another extended warranty.

I bought my first vehicle extended warranty ever on my new TV. Chris

Wise choice ,it probably won't go unused .

Why so much? Not debating, just asking why out of curiosity.
When you say "fouled the injectors", are you saying they're trashed, burned up, whatever? I've just heard of anyone using that term for diesel injectors.

In my mind, replacing injectors and fuel pump should never warrant that much money, but then again, I turn my own wrenches.

bear with me, my understanding of this procedure is simply from reading about it online:

When the pump fails, it does so in spectacular fashion, shredding itself into tiny metal bits. It then sends these in high pressure to the injectors, were they will also destroy themselves attempting to pump metal, rather than diesel fuel.

The cleanup/repair needs to be thorough and complete, by replacing or cleaning everything downstream of the HPFP.

12 to 15 grand sounds outrageous, but diesel repairs are far more expensive than their gasoline counterparts.
  • Which fuel pump does that engine use? The higher pressure unit in the current Powerstroke and Duramax were one of the factors that pushed me into a Cummins, which is the first Chrysler product I've ever purchased (awesome truck, but I admit to some trepidation about the reliability of the non-powertrain components of the truck).

Based on what I've read, if you get that job done for $8-10k you'll be doing well.
