Maybe I'm insane, but when I learned how to drive, part of the process was popping the vehicle into neutral, setting the parking brake, then shifting into park. This not just gave protection against rolling, but brake pads are a lot cheaper to replace than a transmission, and all that weight resting on one itty bitty parking pawl isn't a good thing.
If park turned into neutral, it wouldn't affect me, although I like having two forms of engagement ensuring the vehicle stays put.
