Ford LED Tail Light Hyper Flash Program Code Fix

A lot of people have asked for the program fix to address the "Hyper Flash" when using LED tail lights on either a truck camper or trailer.

Using the FORD FORScan interface software:

1. Turn off (disable) the Lamp Outage Indicator for TRAILER TAIL AND BRAKE LIGHT

2. Turn off (disable) the Lamp Outage Indicator for TRAILER TURN SIGNAL LIGHT

These two items are in the TRM, Trailer Module, area of the trucks software program.

We have never received the hyper flash error message on our truck with these mods. We had the dealer do the program changes prior to picking up the new truck. At first he gave us the run-around that it can not be done, but we finally found and gave him the 2 specific FORScan lines to change in the trailer module listed above, and they did it, and it works great.

  • I have not had to do any programming changes to use my two trailers or two truck campers which all use LED external lights. I did have issues with my '03 VW reporting bad bulbs when I replaced blown incandescent models with LED, but the flasher rate did not change. I had to use external resistors on the LED bulbs or ones with internal resistance to remedy the false failure indicators. My pre-2000 MY vehicles have resistive flashers that are affected by low draw LED bulbs, but I have not seen this on newer ones (even my 2000+ MY motorcycles).

What year is your Ford? My 2005 F250 had no problem with trailers or campers using LED even though the truck lights were incandescent.
  • LEDs on both my camper and boat trailer, and never an issue. I did, however, have a wire separate intermittently on my boat trailer; and was glad to have the warning working.
  • I've never had an issue and haven't changed anything with forscan.
