Ford OEM brake controller

I've come to the conclusion that I need to replace the brake controller; I get TBC fault every time I start my truck without the trailer hooked up. How tough is it to remove and install the TBC? My truck is an '06 Ford Superduty.

  • If you remove it you will need to have ford or someone who can program the ford computer to stop looking for the controller or you will have a permanent check engine light.

If you go behind the glove compartment is where you will find the brake controller. Make sure both plugs into the unit are properly latched. If they are tight then I would check the OEM connector behind your 7 pin and make sure its not full of corrosion I would do some more searching.

My 2010 F150 built-in BRAKE CONTROL has many connection to the on-board computers. I like everything it does except one feature.

My BRAKE PEDAL does not engage the OEM brake controller unless the forward speed is above 10MPH I think it is.

What this does that I don't like is engage my trailer brakes when sitting at a stop sign when pushing down on the brake pedal. I like to lock the trailer down so I have to use my thumb switches to engage the brake controller to do it.

I'm sure the guys at ford can track down your problem. Its a great brake controller.

Before you tear anything out make sure you troubleshoot it. I had an issue once and I think it ended up being the pressure switch on the master cylinder.
