I feel that the Ford advantage is only in 1/2 tons, and only because of the Ecoboost. It is hands down the best 1/2 ton going (properly optioned). But, the price of it gets you into the 3/4 ton diesel neighborhood. And I am positive that the Ecoboost doesn't have the duty cycle of any of the big three's 3/4 ton diesel offerings.
Take the Ecoboost out of the lineup, and Fords offerings are not any better or worse than the GMs and Dodges.
But they sell a lot of them because of the Ecoboost.
The game changes in the 2500/3500 market. I was just at the Brittany Gundog National Championships.
These people absolutely depend on the reliability of their TVs. They all tow heavy with live expensive animals on board. Having a problem on the road is not tolerated. It could mean a big problem with the welfare of the animals,(20+ dogs and up to 4 horses) and missing a competition.
It was startling to see the dominance of one brand in the parking area. At least 80% were GMs
Bottom line: Since it appears that the OP wants a 1/2 ton, I would recommend the Ford only with Ecoboost. If that is not in the cards, then any of the big three will do.
