Ford or Dodge ?

I personally would not buy an 08-10 Ford Diesel. Ford V10 is a great combo for these years if you have to stay Ford.

If you want a Diesel then go for the Cummins during the 08-10 years.

Ford, I'd go for a 2012 and up Powerstroke. I'd walk right past the 6.4 PSD.

Agreed on staying away from the 08-10 years. I am a Ford guy thru and thru but those years did have issues that were expensive to repair. I had an 08 Lariat and what a nightmare but luckily I had ESP. My Dad had an 08 Dodge with all kinds of turbo issues, 3 in 20k. He is a sticker about care of his vehicle. Good luck in your venture.

Someone mentioned three turbos in 20K miles? Me thinks someone did not how to drive a modern diesel truck. My 07 6.7L Cummins is supposed to be the worst, but I have never had a problem with it. I do run with the EB on all the time and always am in 5th unless Im on the highway. Keeping RPMs up, not lugging, and basically driving it like I stole it is the key to a happy diesel.

If your throwing the coin in the air....there are way more questions than naming a brand. This question of brand is quite overbroad and always leads us off track.
When choosing a Tow Truck, you have to consider all of your personal preferences. There are many and what does one seek by asking? Value, reliability, towing capability, engine, gas or diesel, single or dual wheel, single or crew cab, auto vs. manual, gear ratios...on and on... "color?"...lol no silver for me... But asking what to avoid or who has had issues is also very educational for all of us. We all do not experience the same so to hear from the people that own and use their trucks is invaluable.

Whichever brand you choose don't purchase any brand that has a DPF filter that's not equipped with DEF.

Ford implemented DEF in 2011
Ram implemented DEF in 2013 (excluding CC models).

The early 6.7 cummins had issues with turbo's especially soot clogging them up.

Which one do you like or more important which one does the chair of the household finance committee like? You will hear horror stories about all makes, sometimes you have to separate the wheat from the chaff. Our 05 Ram ctd has been almost bulletproof, the a/c clutch and heater have been the only issues. Three turbos in 20,000 miles is odd, sounds like driving habits like shutting off without allowing the turbo to spool down, or installation issues.
