I've owned several early Chevys diesels and one Ford gas and had fair/poor experiences with them so brand loyalty is going to depend on how they hold up for each individual. My last truck was a 2012 1500 Ram Hemi. Loved it and decided to replace it with a Ram 2500 Diesel which I love, however I have not put enough miles on them to tell about reliability of the Rams. Among other trips we tow a 23 ft. trailer twice a year to Boise,ID and that means 600 miles of up and down between 4000 ft and 7000 ft. and the difference from Hemi to diesel is remarkable. That being said all makes can be good, fair or bad. Like others said do your homework, try and figure out your trailer, then a truck that is capable. Determine your towed weight and tongue weight before choosing a truck. Obviously if you get a 1/2 ton and want to go bigger on the trailer you're into a different truck. FYI door sticker payload on my 2014 Ram CTD Crew Cab 2500 Big Horn 4X4 is 2100 lbs. with the shell now about 1900 lbs.
Good Luck
