Ford V-10 update

Has anyone added another fuel tank? With a short bed mine has the smaller tank 29 gallon. Not a lot of range with a thirsty V-10.

Thanks for the link I found out why I did not have parking lights. Some fool spliced into the trailer wire harness and now needs replaced. They want $145. on ebay for a replacement. At least I found the problem.

Keep in mind too that the guys on FTE are all into mods....they will tinker and replace just to say they did it, I doubt you will really see a true noticeable increase in performance after spending all that money. My studs were replaced under warranty but if I have to do it again I would use grade 8 bolts NOT stainless. The studs break from stress not corrosion.

I too was thinking of using the Stainless hardware, but after thinking about it.....that would be a pain to have to extract if it broke. and stainless will. good luck on drilling stainless!

I have seen some headers on ebay from $400 to $1100 for the Bank's. They claim about a 30 Hp increase. I don't know if it's worth the money or just put in the bolt kit.

The main reason that I would replace the stock heads with the Banks headers would only be because of on reason. From what guys have seen the replacement parts to have the ford dealer "replace" the exhaust manifold gasket + parts runs within a few hundred of replacing with the Stainless Steel + new hardware of banks. Guys that have done it said it's a "one time fix" type scenario. Ford just re-uses the same parts and you risk having to have the gasket done again later on down the road.

Performance wise guys over on FTE V10 forum seem to go for the Headers > Y-Pipe > free flow mufflers and a 5-star tune.

Again I wouldn't do it unless I had to, but if the dealer is going to get me for 600+ I'm going to pay the extra and get the good stuff -- personal preference.

I stuck with the original manifolds and had them machined as they were warped. I used anti seize on the bolts to keep them from galling again. Also just a heads up on my 01 the bolts were over torqued at the factory. The bolt shoulder was driven into the head and messed up the first few threads which locked the bolt into the head. Out of twenty total bolts I had seven which I had to extract. Use a fluted extractor. If you have to drill out a bolt a company does make a drill guide kits. The kit cost me $600. After I was done I sold it to a local Ford dealer for $300.

Just fixed my exhaust manifold bolts last winter. PITA job. Mine was leaking even when warm.

Mine was 14 years old and had 185,000 miles on it when I traded it in. IIRC, there were three exhaust manifold bolts broken off on one side and at least two on the other. No exhaust leak so I didn't bother to fix it.
