The problem is alleged to be (by some) that the aluminum components are contaminated with iron.
The EXACT cause has never been identified, but clearly there is some kind of contamination.

THIS WARRANTY STATEMENT WAS CHANGE IN 2016MY, with the inclusion of the following statement :If aluminum body panels have corrosion or rust damage, and the damage is not the result of abnormal usage, vehicle accident, customer actions and/or extreme environmental conditions, the corrosion or rust damage repairs are covered for 5 years, unlimited miles.
