I’m not a automotive engineer, but can’t help thinking the 6.7 Cummins would benefit with 8 or 10 speeds . That would be a big change for Ram ,being they offer two transmissions, wouldn’t make sense to not just offer one tranny like ford , and GM if they went 8 or 10 speeds . IMO it will happen at some point . - blt2skiModerator

ROTFLMAO ????????
Very TRUE!!!!!!
I have to agree with this Ron.
But I feel be it correctly done, or incorrectly time wise, the article does show the difference between an HO and STD power 6.7 Cummins motors. Just as it show difference in other two vs these. Still think it shows positive negative differences between these four motors, whether or not who ever is reading this, likes the results or not.

It's nice they ALL have plenty of power to do the job right out of the box without adding power enhancers. Two needed more gears and one does not to do their task. Two have marginal exhaust brakes and one has an awesome EB. So IMHO if anything needs to be improved it's the exhaust braking.
Really this "TEST" did not use the HO Cummins in the primary test as on the surface it makes the Cummins numbers "look" less than reality. But IMHO is the authors intent. NO not whining just stating the obvious.
Talking to my son about his exhaust brake on 2022 Superduty after your comment above , he said if he uses adaptive cruise it applies the brakes if needed coming off a grade , does not care for that . He said he turns off the adaptive on the steep grades ,sets his cruise ,and it does its thing same as the Ram . Steep grade out of Island Park ,down to Ashton Idaho, about a steep of grade for about 5 miles as you want to go , going home yesterday he said it did that grade with it set at 55 ,and never touched the brakes. I used to white knuckle that grade with my old Superduty ,and Montana fifth wheel, I would slow to about 40 over the top ,and try to keep it there .
Sounds like Ford has caught up with the RAM. You might want to test drive one . :B
They are impressive ,but on the other hand my other sons 2022 Ram is equally as impressive , but has nothing over on the Ford . - valhalla360NavigatorHad a 1992 F250 with 7.3. It was a nice towing machine.
It also had 1/2 the HP and around 1/3 the torque of the weakest of the new diesels.
Any of the new trucks are towing beasts. This is more about who's willy is bigger than any real life advantage. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIIt's nice they ALL have plenty of power to do the job right out of the box without adding power enhancers. Engine sure isn't short on power, and the 10 speed was flawless.
That said, the first lines of the article were 100% right on.
f we know anything about the diesel pickups produced by the Big Three, it’s that loyalists emotions run high any time one brand outperforms the other two. When Chevrolet and GMC HD’s are running the show, Ram and Ford owners sneer. When Ram makes it to the top, GM and Ford lovers have a lot to complain about. And when Blue Ovals beat out the Bow Ties and Rams it’s more of the same. - Grit_dogNavigator II

It's been about a decade now that comparing power between the three diesels has been irrelevant.
More pertinent questions would by why the Ram's transmissions haven't caught up yet, or why GM and Ford can't figure out how to make a good exhaust brake.
Always the voice of fact and reason!
Especially the transmission part! Lol - cummins2014Explorer

Someone has their:B head stuck Ford's AZZ. WHY????? would the numbers posted FIRST in big bold print comparing all three show RAM's standard output numbers in stead to their HO with AISIN numbers??? Oh sure they mentioned the HO later in passing.
Example........."This is where it happened. A 2020 Super Duty laid down 498 hp and 1,086 lb-ft of torque on these rollers—effectively leaving the Duramax-powered ’20 GM and Cummins-equipped ’21 Ram that were also tested here at the same time in the dust."
Reading the above is a SKEWED paragraph made to have Ford look better.
YES the Ford does put down what they advertise, NOT doubting that just don't like these type of fan based articles no matter the results.
You don't like it because you are a Ram fan ,if it was reversed it would be thumbs up. Live with it .I can say the same thing about someones head stuck up a Rams AZZ .
I have two sons both with new 2022 trucks ,they are impressive. From what my ford owner son tells me that Ford is pretty impressive towing his new fifth wheel . I have driven both, I would buy either one .
Same response, nice "bait" not going to bite!!!
No need , the bite is great here in Montana . Just a little of your own medicine . - ksssExplorer

Finally! It is about time. Ford has had a history of inflating their numbers, then falling flat on the hillclimb tests. They did well on the only test to date, but it was really cold for that test. I would like to see them do one in the summer to see what it will really do when the temps go up.

That is exactly right. Ford historically bumps their numbers on paper to have the best in class ratings. However, they hook up to a trailer and pull the IKE and they historically never perform to their numbers. UNTIIL this time. FORD clearly outperformed both RAM and GM, convincingly so on the last run. Good on them. It will force the other two to dial up their specs. Whenever GM releases the next HD, last I heard it will be 2024, they supposedly are increasing the hp and torque. They need to. Now in real life, I am very happy with my 2020 Dmax, but the exhaust brake could be better, as someone mentinoned. Plenty of real world power, pulling moderate passes that we have here at 35-40K combined, It makes me happy. But more is....well more.
