Jim,
10-13% is easy, normal etc for local roads here at sea level in the greater Seattle area. I know of a few close to 25% that I have had to pull trailers up, granted equipment trailers. stalled out on a few of them too! I have yet to find an "in the mountain(s)" road that is bad as some in downtown Seattle proper, or the road I used to live on to one of the local foot hills, elevation 550'! I'm not worried about mountains, unless towing the ski hut to a local ski area to spend the weekend in it! Then it can be downhill on a 3-5% grade with ice and snow. That gets interesting!
Marty
We do have some of those type grades in this area as well as VA, TN and WV, but will admit, I won't have my truck and 5er on them....You big ole bully:B
thanks Marty:W - blt2skiModeratorJim,

To answer the OP's question. My 2011 Ford 6.7 has 43,000 miles on it and has been flawless so far. It has towed a 13,000lb fiver up and down the West Virginia mountains 11,000 of those miles. I would say that this is one of the toughest places to tow a camper. I average 10 to 11 mpg towing and 17-19 solo. It is a F350 CC 4x4 SRW SB.
Agree...Born and raised in WV, (living in NC now, still in the mountains:))....Towed all over the state of WVa and own a camp in Pence Springs WV...don't tell others how the mountains are in WV:)...IF you live east of the Mississippi, there are no mountains to most others who live west of the Mississippi:R
10-13% grades, (and up) on secondary, mountainous, curvy roads are a "norm"...rarely a straight long stretch to be found..but you are correct..I tow my 5er, loaded to 16,200# all through those mountains quite effortlessly...(mine is a CC/4X4/LB/DRW truck). - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorer
almost always for Cab & Chassis problems which, IIRC, are problems related to turbos or valve problems (which are different from the 350/250 SD), or in relation to some yahoo running a tuner but somehow you conveniently do not mention that.
LMAO, ya, that's right, this is all CC problems. LOL
Your memory must not be very good. Ford and the other two manufactures can tell when a tuner has been add since the mid 2000's.
Look at the guy in post 5. He must be running a tuner! LOL Maybe 5 is the charm. :B
Here is what Ford says about the valve dropping deal:Ford wrote:

Oh my, they must be having problems with the 250 and 350. Notice Ford does not just say CC. Unless you know more than Ford? LOL
No problem with me not fixing your leaf blower. My BIL who's car I used to work on just won the last huge championship race of the season. The jokes on you, because the car has a Ford engine in it. LMAO - NinerBikesExplorer

Fear mongering on something you have 0 experience with because of your disdain for the 6.4L.
You need to follow along. This discussion is about the 6.7 Powerstroke engine, not the 6.4 Powerstroke engine.
BTW for your benefit and the OP it's called a 6.7 Powerstroke, not a 6.7 Scorpion. And how do you know how much experience I have with ANY engine?
Is this fear mongering? These are Ford 6.7 owners with blown up engines talking about such.
BTW you never did answer the question.
Why aren't people saying bad things about:
The Ford V10 engine?
The 7.3 engine?
Ford interiors?
The Ford 5.0 engine?
Now answer the question.Turtle n Peeps - self proclaimed expert on everything engine related wrote:

I see. Hypocritical in your own post?
Let's see...the majority of links you continually provide in your fear mongering posts about the 6.7L are almost always for Cab & Chassis problems which, IIRC, are problems related to turbos or valve problems (which are different from the 350/250 SD), or in relation to some yahoo running a tuner but somehow you conveniently do not mention that. What kind of race team mechanic are you? Certainly not one that I would ever trust to repair my leaf blower.
Why don't you fess up to your agenda based on your experience with the 6.4?
BTW, if you were extremely knowledgeable on the subject you would know that Scorpion was the project name used while the motor was being engineered.
A very fitting name for the R&D project turned production. Seems more than a few owners have been stung by scorpion FOMOCO and their diesel products, once again, with venomous warranties. Not just a few, but many, with far too much down time before the unit is back in service. I find that unacceptable. But I guess you are OK with it. Everyone is OK with it, until they become a statistic... then they stop singing the Koolaid tune. - RedRocket204Explorer

"Ford's track record with building diesels... 3 attempts now, since Navistar got smart and dumped Ford. 6.0, 6.4, now 6.7. Nothing has changed, when it comes to their engineers designing diesel engines."
You sure about this?
I am sure that IMHO, it's my belief, as noted by experts that are in the rebuilding diesel motor industry and their pictures and video's of repeated, common failures that keep on reoccuring, such that they can make a business model out of it and be predictive, due to experience. Pictures don't lie. People trying to get warranty work covered is another matter.
I am not even close to a Ford diesel fan, but you need to check your facts. The 6.0 and 6.4 are both Navistar engines.
It is also my understanding that Ford dumped Navistar, and that it was over 6.0 warranty issues. - Rich1961ExplorerI'll throw my experience in with the 6.7 PSD. I work for a very large Utility in California, and we have several hundred 6.7's in service starting with the 2011's. Almost all are 350 thru 550 Chassis Cabs with various beds on them, including Bucket Trucks. In the area I work in there has been 15 engines replaced that I know of, along with multiple turbos, and of course the dreaded exhaust sensors shutting the trucks down. Some trucks have had several turbo's replaced. This is just in the small area that I work in, I have no idea how many have had engines replaced system wide.
The truck I drive, and have driven since it was new in December of 2011, is an F350 SRW 4x4 6.7 with 84,000+ miles on it. It is currently at Ford right now getting a new engine because the original engine lost compression in the #2 cylinder about 4.5 weeks ago. It has been at Ford for 4.5 weeks for this engine replacement, and I was told today it would be put back in service to me tomorrow. Since I've had this truck, it has spent a total of about 7 weeks at Ford for various issues. About 2 weeks before the engine went, the famed exhaust sensor reared its ugly head, shutting the truck down in an intersection as I waited for the light to change. What a great way to program the sensors to operate.
Now before someone calls me a Ford basher, I actually like the Ford Chassis. I've driven nothing but Fords at work for 30 years now and have somewhere around 500k miles driving them. The 2002 F450 with the 7.3 was a great reliable truck for me, I sure miss it.
There is no perfect brand of truck, and I certainly have no brand loyalty as I've owned all three brands. In my opinion and experience, until Ford gets it together with the Diesel engines in its trucks, I won't own one based on my experience at work with the 6.7. Hopefully the 2015's have addressed the issues I'm seeing with the trucks at work. If I were to buy a Ford at this time, it would be the 6.2 gas engine. Have seen and heard really good things about them at work. I guess I need to change my signature and user name as I no longer have the truck and camper in my signature, I now drive a Silverado Duramax and have an Arctic Fox 5th wheel. So much for the brand loyalty. By the way, I didn't get rid of the Ram/Cummins because of any issues. Only problem I had with it was a leaking water pump while under warranty. We moved up to a 5th wheel and didn't need the Dually anymore.
