- PossilianExplorerExlporer,
I have it on my 990 and wouldn't have a tc without it. I broke my knee back in 1996 with my old coachman scissor stairs. It is what made me get out of tc's. I recently did my own repair on my tc which involved removing my bumper. You are going to want to think it thru before installing your bumper. It would be good to contact Northwoods to get any advice like I did. Make sure you seal the bumper between itself and the tc. Not sure if the bumper comes pre-drilled but there are lots and lots of fasteners. My oem setup sllows for a big tray which carries my sewer hoses and odd pieces I stick in there like poles for my homemade side awning. Best of luck! - More2ExploreExplorerAs the owner of a new 2014 Wolf Creek 850 I'm wishing I had ordered it from the factory! I to am concerned about that big last step when parked on an incline! Still struggling with the choice between scissor steps and the Fox landing. Am actually considering seeing if it is possible to attach scissor steps to that last step or the opposite side....depending on the incline of course.
In talking to the dealer I worked with on the camper purchase (parts department not sales) they can order the bumper and Fox landing for the same price as sales could have gotten it with the original order. I have to deal with shipping and labor to install but guess that would insure warranty coverage, something I'm already having to deal with. I understand there is some small modification they do at the factory to the retrofit bumper before they send it out to the dealer. I need to talk to them to see if it HAS to be dealer installed or if they will let a handy enduser do the install. Will also be asking them about the weight for the bumper and the landing.
Anyone know if the mounts on the bumper for the fox landing take up internal space for the bumper? In other words could you store long objects such as fishing poles in there? Can you see all the way thru to access on the opposite side?
I've been actively using my camper without any step or bumper since getting it a month ago and am getting real tired of the "climb"!!! - SangoExplorerWe have the AF 1150 and love the Fox Landing. So glad that we got it.
- Mello_MikeExplorerThanks, guys, for the replies. The high step up on inclines is a concern. I wonder if Torklift has any plans to produce an add-a-step for the Fox Landing, similar to what they currently have for their Glowstep?
- brholtExplorer IIWe ordered our 1150 with it. It is an expensive option but we, especially my wife, are very happy with it. It is very sturdy with reasonable sized steps and my wife really likes it compared to the various "scissor step" options she tried. We don't tow at this time but it is a nice option to have and I think it will allow us to easily add a rear hitch bike carrier.
One of the real nice features is the size of the "landing". You can easily stand on it and open the door. When coming back from hiking it sure is nice to step up, unlock the door and open it for the dogs while standing on the landing. Need to open the door to separate the screen door from the main door and latch the main door open? No problem, plenty of room on the "landing."
In regards to the number of steps it seems we are camping on inclines a lot. Sometimes all we need is the Fox Landing but most of the time it isn't enough. We have a two step plastic "step ladder" we use that works very nicely. Sometimes we need both of its steps:
Sometimes we only need one step. Because the ladder is very stable and has a large top step it works very well to just step off the top of the ladder and skip the first step on the Fox Landing:
The dogs have also learned to "charge up" without problems. The step ladder is also the right size for us to use it so the dogs can get into the back seat of the crew cab so the ladder serves double duty.
Speaking of which: - YukonersExplorerWe have one on our 2012 Arctic Fox 990 and love it. Not as heavy as I had thought. Carry a small sturdy folding stool for additional step only needed on sloping campsite, when level the fox landing is perfect. Can fold up or down with one hand as well.

Thats the drawback that I saw with them. If your rig sits low, the Fox Landing is great. If your TC sits high they are not as nice to use. They should offer an add on second drop down step as an option. - NVR2L82AV8ExplorerMike,
I've got one on my AF990. I bought it after a few trips as the bumper and NO intermediate step was a safety disaster waiting to happen for the Friday Funnies (for those not Mil the Friday Funnies is a USN Safety message highlighting preventable buffoonery). Us Air Force aviators used to die laughing on some of the prose--but I digress.....
Anyway, Torklift does not sell them anymore so you have to go through the dealer and pay the big Bones. Mine was shipped right to the house in a large wooden box right from the Northwood Manufacturing. Its got Torklift markings on it with night glo squares. Its heavy duty aluminum. It mounted to my bumpers' existing holes but, I had to go get new stainless hardware as the hardware they sent was for drilling and mounting to bumpers not already factory modified. I believe all the new AF campers are pre-drilled and ready to "bolt on." If you have eight plugged holes on the vertical bumper section (factory modified) pull the caps off and you"ll see some nut plates inside the bumper. If you don't have them you'll need to drill your own.
BL: they are extremely light - no more than 30 pounds, fold up easily, and look great. The intermediate basement step keeps all steps and landing the same heights. I wish they'd have added one more step (two fold down) as the first step off the ground is a big step even when my F350 is fully loaded.
There's a little removable panel (visible when it is in the stowed "folded" position) that has the "Fox" laser etched out. I intend to have the Air Force symbol, my rank, and my aviator wings laser etched and then I'll back light it with some colored LEDs--should look cool. I may also mod it to add one more step as well. Overall, I am extremely happy with it! - BradWExplorer II
