I think the dealer is pretty picky about the plan. For example, a buddy that bought a new Jeep from them installed a K&N air filer shortly after buying it. When it came due for a filter change (in the book) he had to buy one or it kicked him out of the free oil change program.
I agree with that. I bought a used Wranger (5,000 miles) that was still under warranty. I installed a lock gas cap from Napa. They complained when I took it in for service claiming it would void my warranty. This wasn't just a casual comment. They were out of control with their comments. I just told them to install a Jeep locking cap. Not available. So my Napa cap stays.
Actually, this is not as ridiculous as it may sound. (Many!!! years ago)... we purchased a brand new Oldsmobile Calais. Because of where we were living, I switched the factory gas cap with a locking one I picked up form NAPA. After a couple days, I started having engine trouble. The car was still under warranty of course. I found out that if I removed the locking gas cap, then put it back on, it ran fine for a while, but eventually would have problems again.
After fighting this for some time, I finally took it back to the dealer and had them check it out. They said the cap I replaced was not vented correct for that car, it was causing a vacuum lock in the gas tank as gas was being used, and not enough air in the tank. They told me to put the original back on. I did. Never had a problem again. (But did have gas stolen).
