Fresh Water Tank Fill Method

Yes. There have been a number of posts by people who do not have an outside fill tube doing just what you say. Fortunately, I do have an outside fill tube.

My pump sucks the antifreeze through the system but does not suck it to the fresh water tank.

It will suck the water from your jug but it will not pump it into your water tank only into your water lines and out the faucets. I use a funnel that I put in the outside fresh water fill and then just dump the jug into the tank.

The point of that hose and valve is so u would not have to add plumbing antifreeze directly into your water tank instead it sucks from the antifreeze jug and into your water lines and out the faucets.

This is my basic setup for the water system in my 2004 5th wheel trailer. My 2008 OFF-ROAD POPUP is very similar except only has one sink and no shower or toilet connections and no gray or black water tank. I have to capture my own gray water and tote away in the popup.



My anifreeze hose is placed between the fresh water tank and the water pump. It is actually just a few inches away from the intake side of the water pump. Having the value located here selects either water coming from the fresh water tank or coming from the antifreeze hose.


With my system I cannot use the water pump to fill my fresh water tank. I have to manually fill it at the manual fill port...

Yeah; I'm tempted to say, "that sucks," but I won't.

I want to be able to fill the tank without having to lift a 5 or 6 or 7 gallon jug and dump it in (while "dry" camping). Now I'm back to the drawing board of assembling a little pumping station with a battery-operated pump. I know there are lots of ideas out there, and I've been searching them and reading about them. But I was hoping it wouldn't be necessary.

How about a three way valve on the fresh water tank to water pump (suction side). And a three way valve on output side of your water pump.

Put another suction line on the three way valve and run that out to your water jug.

Put another pressure side line off the three way valve on the pressure side of pump and route that down into your fresh water tank. Should be able to see where the current fill line goes down into your tank. Heck, you could actually use a T into the existing fresh water fill line or something like that. That way you can't overfill.

Working all this out on the fly, someone correct me if I'm wrong on my thinking. :-)

Doh! on second thought, use the existing antifreeze fill line and then add three way valve on output side of pump. Plumb the new output line as I mentioned above.

It should work if you use a hose between a faucet (outside shower?) and your freshwater fill inlet.

Hi,

I replaced the nipple on the faucet in the bathroom sink. I run a hose out the window and use that to operate the black water flush system when there is no water supply at the dump station.

I could simply use the gravity fill with the hose and the winterize setting on the water pump.

It might take a bit of fabricating, but you could cut your water line after the water pump and put in a Y-valve. One line would go to the original flow, the other could go to the fresh water tank.

You'd also need a way to tap into your fresh water tank inlet hose, and then make sure it also had a check valve so when running the pump into the fresh water tank, it would go into the tank and not out the fill port on the outside of the camper.

Then, when you added the water to your tank, you can flip the valve back to it's original flow.

A little common sense and some patients, no reason why you couldn't rig up something like this.
