Friction Hinge Doods

Just got a new Rockwood Mini Lite It has ,new this year, friction hinge outside doors. I'm not a real fan of them but want some opinions from others that have them. Is there a way of getting them to run freely?
  • Sorry, didn't answer your question. I can't see any way to make it run free without replacing the hinges.
  • Having had both types, I prefer the friction type. Never had the wind close it.
  • I have one on my Adventurer truck camper and I like it a lot, haven't found a wind strong enough to move it yet. Took a bit to get used to it but like it now.
  • Well, I am not a fan of friction hinge doors.

I have one on our 2016 Arctic Fox. Even when the door is wide open and against the side of the trailer those South Dakota winds will catch it and swing it partially closed. The only good thing is the wind has never been able to slam it completely closed.

What good is the friction hinge door if I still have to put a manual mechanism on it to hold the door fully open? Plus, I wonder if over time, if the torque from the friction hinge will take a toll on the door frame. :@
  • I know exactly what you mean about not liking the door compared to the traditional door with the keeper mounted on the sidewall. All I can say is you'll get use to it and actually begin to like it over the older style. When you go to close the door no need to go outside to unlatch. It stays open in many positions even with wind. It's hard for someone to slam the door making for the obnoxious loud noise. Maybe somebody else has a modification to remove the feature,
