You guys are killing me. I'm in the same boat as the OP and have been keeping my eye out for a 3/4 ton. Just can't justify the price.
Went shopping around today to kill some time. Found 2 Ram crew short boxes with the Cummins, optioned up a bit but not Laramies. $80K and $83k!!! The diesel is usually around $8k more than a gasser. I have yet to see a 6.4l price but I guarantee it's over $70k.
A pair of 6.0 Chevy crews with Z71 packages were $61k+. I can only dream of finding a new 3/4t for under $40k. Most 2012s are going for well over that used. Heck, even the new 1/2 tons are mid fifty and up. We're getting raped up here. So much for free trade.
