Front bunk trailers

We have been talking about getting a new trailer sooner then later so we have been out kicking some tires and DW is having a hard time with the tight front bed situation on most trailers with bunks. We saw a keystone outback that had front bunks and a rear queen with a slide so it had a lot more room in there. From what I have found so far is not too many manufacturers make that floor plan. My question is who else makes that floor plan besides keystone or does anyone make a front bed floorplan with more room with bunks in the rear. I will be getting a bigger truck so I can pull a bigger trailer.
  • Looking at the floorplan above posted by APT I find there is not enough separation between the living room and kids room with the front bunk layout.
Additionally I do think kids need room to play and just hang out in their own space.
The rear bunkhouse layouts seem to have more room for the kids vs. the front bunk floorplans.
If kids have their own ample space than the adults can benefit by having their own space. Separate space is not a factor when kids are small but as they grow older having separate spaces is beneficial.
  • Outback 301 Diamond Package is probably our next TT within a year.

It is far less popular for larger families than 3 rear bunks, 2 on slide, one over outdoor kitchen, like the Outback 312 for example. It comes down to parent space with the master bed slide or kids bunk space. Since I'm tall, I don't like the front bedrooms as well like I have now. And I like that it is 3-4' shorter for fitting in a few more campsites. But most people like the larger bunk space, room for kids to play I guess. Anyway...

Keystone also has a Passport Elite 32FB. Palomino has the Puma 30-FBSS. Forest River has Two Windjammer models 3006 with and without outdoor kitchen. And I think I have seen one more but I cannot remember the brand.

Another newer floorplan becoming popular is something like the Outback 323 or Passport 3220. A little more master bed space with walk through bath.
  • Yeah tons of rear bunk floorplans but they are all pretty tight in the front bedroom. Thats what the DW hates. Some are better than others but so far she doesnt really like any of those. Only other option is a 5th wheel which we really dont want to do.

I have that trailer! Outback 25RSS with the side slide out, front bunks. It's a 2007. As I recall, Coleman made one at one time, don't know if they still do. Mostly see other Outbacks when we're travelling.

As far as bunks in the rear, there are quite a few manufacturers who offer bunks either in the very back, similar to the Outback (across the back), or on one of the 2 rear corners, with the bathroom next to the bunks. I looked at several StarCraft models about a week ago when I was in a local RV dealer getting parts, and they've got some really nice floor plans.
  • Grey Wolf makes a rear Queen with front bunks in a separate bunk room. Wildcat Maxx and Hemisphere make a front Queen with a rear bunk room. I think surveyor Pilot has a front queen rear bunk room also
  • I just sold my 2006 Coachmen Captiva with the same floor plan as the outback. I liked the trailer and loved the amount of storage it had compared to many others. It was kind of tight in the back by the couch and dinette. 4 people eatting breakfast or dinner back there ends up with a lot of manuvering to get around each other.

My next trailer will have a side slide for more floor space.
