They must be built differently. In fact, I suspect that there are MANY differences between the US and Australia, in vehicle construction, road conditions, driver skills/attitudes, speeds, distances, and traffic.
Are you saying Australian drivers are more skilled? Have you direct experience with the Australian driver-education system?
I know it's a joke here in the states. The back woods town I grew up in taught me how to drive around on quiet backwoods roads with lazy speed limits - I was not very well prepared when I went away to college in Detroit, with huge expressways, hurried city driving and so much traffic.
