FYI boondocking places

Just wanted to make people aware that the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) has a lot of places to camp for free:

http://www.tva.gov/river/recreation/dispersed/

If you click on the map link you can zoom into areas to see what is available.

We will be using one in two weeks (if we get there before someone else does!).

  • Thanks for the tip and the discussion. I one does not live in the area, it is hard to imagine the circumstances. This is maybe a little out of the way for our circumnavigation/U.S. but I'll take a look.

has anyone on here used these TVA areas before. I am interested if I would be allowed to run my 2KW Generator after 8AM in the mornings to re-charge my battery banks at these boondocking/Dispersed camp sites. None of the web sites seem to discuss the use of Generators...

I am assuming it would be much like the Natl Forest areas which some have 8Am to 10AM and then again 4PM to 8PM. Other Natl Forest areas have 8AM to 8PM. None of the Natl Forest allow use of generator after 8PM at night. This is for public places here on the East side of the US at any rate..

Interested in finding DISPERSED places around the SMOKY Mountains or in the high country of TN-NC-SC-GA-ALA areas...

As close to are generators allowed at the TVA TN sites was a comment "No devices can disturb campers..."

I did send an email off to the TVA agency asking but nothing come back yet.
